Are Hindus dangerous?

Whenever news about India make it to the local Nuremberg newspaper, my mother reads them out to me on phone. Usually, those news portray India in a poor light, like ‘people died from cold on the streets of Delhi’ or, especially in the past year ever so often, ‘another gang rape’, conveniently ignoring the gang rapes on home turf. During recent months, however, one term clearly dominates the western media, and going by the language used, it seems to be the most dangerous and heinous trait that any Indian could have, and that needs to be condemned by one and all.  The term is “Hindu fundamentalist”.  And the prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who is considered the frontrunner in the elections, is said to be one.

“A racist is India’s hope – Hindu fundamentalist Modi could win the election” my mother read out to me on 4th of April. Another article in the same paper, sourced from the German press agency (dpa) read “A man splits India”. In it, too “Hindu fundamentalism” was stressed and the RSS even being compared to Nazi ideology. English newspapers, too, paint ‘Hindu fundamentalist’ Narendra Modi as highly dangerous for India and the world. And leading from the front, the Indian mainstream media freely label any Hindu organizations as ‘fundamentalist’ and ‘communal’ since years and leave no doubt that the secular fabric of Indian democracy will be endangered if this ‘Hindu fundamentalist’ comes to power.

The relentless media campaign shows already results worldwide. On my last visit to Germany, a woman sitting next to me in a bus asked, “What about the Hindu fundamentalists?” when she came to know that I live in India. I told her that the fear of Hindu fundamentalists is unfounded. In fact, I am in India precisely because I treasure the fundamentals of Hinduism.

I am sure that most left liberal ‘intellectuals’ in India and abroad will come down heavily on me if they hear me say that. There is so much shouting in TV debates and living rooms that one cannot get down to the basics and ask simple questions. To be fair to Hindus, such questions need to be answered by those who malign Hindus in general and Narendra Modi in particular.

One question for example is: what makes Narendra Modi a Hindu fundamentalist? Is it the fact that he acknowledges that he is a Hindu? Or is it the allegation that he did not do anything to stop the rioting in his state in 2002? This allegation has been proven wrong in spite of intense scrutiny and the explicit desire to find him guilty. Yet let’s for a moment suppose the allegation were true and he really would have encouraged killing of Muslims as revenge for the killing of Hindus in the train burning. In that case, he would indeed deserve severest punishment, but it would not make him a Hindu fundamentalist.

Let me explain: the basic philosophy of Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma, as it was originally called is in a nutshell: this visible universe, including our persons, is divine. Everything is permeated by the same divine essence which is called by many names. Hindus do not, unlike Christians and Muslims, divide humanity into those who are chosen by God and those who are eternally damned. Hindus are those rare human beings whose dharma requires them to regard all as brothers and sisters. Their dharma requires them further to respect nature and not to harm unnecessarily any living being. Hindu children are not taught to look down on those who are not Hindus, unlike children of the dogmatic religions who are taught that their God does not love those others unless they officially join their ‘true’ religions. Hindus are also comparatively kinder to animals. The great bulk of vegetarians worldwide are Hindus. Strangely, this fact is hardly ever acknowledged; nor is acknowledged that Hindus never fought crusades or jihads to establish their religion in foreign lands. On the contrary, since over thousand years Hindus were at the receiving end of such jihads and conversion campaigns and millions of Hindus were killed in cold blood because they were Hindus.

Now coming back to the media assault on Modi as a Hindu fundamentalist: Is he called a Hindu fundamentalist because he openly says that he is a Hindu? Well, this would not be wrong, as he indeed seems to follow the fundamentals of Hinduism. He seems to be a genuinely good human being who wants to give his best to develop India and has the welfare of all Indians in mind.

However, though it is factually not wrong, it is at the same time very unfair by the media to call Modi a Hindu fundamentalist, because the term ‘fundamentalist’ generally has a negative connotation when it comes to other religions, and especially westerners are not knowledgeable enough to distinguish between a Christian or Muslim fundamentalist on one side and a Hindu fundamentalist on the other. If a Christian or Muslim follows the fundamentals of his religions too strictly, it is generally considered as bad for society as a whole. The reason is that such a person will stress his superiority, as his holy book claims that only his religion is true and therefore naturally superior to all other religions. Such a person would see nothing wrong and even might feel it is his duty to convert people of other religions by hook or crook, or, if they don’t comply, despise or even kill them. One only needs to look at history to see what havoc Christian and Muslim fundamentalists have wrought all over the world. So it is no surprise that no European or American politician is labeled as “Christian fundamentalist”, when he simply confesses to be a Christian. Muslim politician, too, are not called “Muslim fundamentalists”, even if they head an Islamic state.

What most people however don’t know: there is no claim of superiority in Hinduism. The reason is that it is not an unverifiable belief system that has to be indoctrinated as the one and only truth, but it is open to enquiry. Blind belief is not required. The fundamentals of Hinduism are sound and conducive for a good character. It is actually good to follow the fundamentals of Hinduism and see the one divine essence everywhere in this visible universe.

“There is talk about this God and that God. Our country is not like that. Here we maintain Ishwar  (God) is one. The paths to attain him are different”, Modi said in an interview on April 12th, 2014 (Aap ki adalat), when a woman asked him whether Christians and their churches will be safe under him. He assured his audience that the motto of his party, in tune with the Constitution of India, is to treat all different paths equally. Communal frenzy will not be allowed to retard the growth of India, he added.

Modi’s words deserve to be taken seriously. He has governed Gujarat with a population of around 60 million for the last 12 years and no major communal clash took place there after the riots of 2002, whereas many riots happened elsewhere. Yet in those 12 years, Narendra Modi managed to greatly develop Gujarat and make it the envy of other Indian states. He proved that he is not corrupt and highly capable.

So why is Narendra Modi relentlessly labeled as Hindu fundamentalist by the world media, which knows fully well that this label will make him look ‘bad’ in the eyes of the world? Could it be that the west is actually afraid of an economically strong India and uses the bogey of Hindu fundamentalism to beat Modi and India down?

Maybe it is time for Hindus to tell the world to have a close look at the fundamentals of Hinduism. They might actually want to adopt them.

  1. Gujarat has always been progressive and one of the well governed state. Modi has marketed it well. No riots after 2002, is like saying hitler was ok after killing Jews. Modi’s rule is to be watched. I hope it does not drive towards fundamentalism or fascism.

It never ceases to amaze me that after heaping violence & atrocities on Hindus in their own homeland foer almost a millennium, these foreign invaders have the gall to tell us that we are the ones who are “fundamentalists&fascists?”…some audacity they have…telling us that we are wrong in prosecuting crimes against us but they are right in invading us on our home & persecuting us for being different from them.

      1. Yahoo! Well said! Hundred percent agree with you.

Totally agree with your comment!! It is outrageous!

    2. Ravi, your comparison with Hitler is clearly unwarranted. please check the facts.

    3. All fanatics are dangerous, irrespective of religion/race. Hindus have their own share of Hindutva Taliban. Would be wise to nip this problem in the bud else the example of Pakistan is there for all to see. How a largely peaceful and democratic society has been overrun by fringe fanatics.

The problem is our democratic system allows one to grab power by polarizing the electorate. No one is required to secure an absolute majority. Modi came to power by capturing 22% of eligible voters. A full 78+% DID NOT vote for Modi. 34% of eligible voters DID NOT even bother to show up, which was incidentally the biggest group!

      1. Please read “Let’s all be Hindu fundamentalists” further down on my blog.
As far as I read your numbers of 22% may be wrong.

      3. Deepali I wish to see so many more views like yours!! Most people these days have become so intolerant and ready to attack other religions fanatics excluding their own. Bless you wise woman!

Maria, I have read your “Lets all be Hindu fundamentalist” article. You cannot deny every religion has their sides that a human conscience does not agree with. Lets agree that Christians have been cruel, very cruel in the past and I agree because of the bad deeds they did in their lives they should rot in hell.

As a Christian I have always been taught to live and let live. They preach Christianity but have NEVER seen a forceful conversion EVER. I don’t think any community will like that. Why people convert is their PERSONAL choice. For example many dalits have either embraced Buddhism or Christianity. Dalits have suffered so much abuse and humiliation at the hands of high castes that they want to be around people who treat them well. You will have NO idea of this abuse as you are not a DALIT and a foreigner who embraced Hinduism and are treated with much joy and enthusiasm.

But being a Christian all my life, while my distant family from fathers side being Hindus, we have mutual respect for each other’s religion. But I found it offensive in the beginning but funny later when they still wash their kitchen with holy water after we visit their home in their village. Best to do then is to ignore such behaviour. We go to their home sometimes, and when they visit us, they come to Church with us. And that is what I love about our relationship.

I think its so important as a Hindu, Christian or a Muslim, be able to use your head and most importantly conscience to challenge the evil practises or beliefs when at the same time embrace ONLY the good things religions has to offer. It is your conscience and not a religious book that must drive one.

      4. Well, Mr./Ms. skm, while I appreciate your ‘live and let live’ policy, it would be better to aware and talk about what is happening in outside of your home. You said in your comment (in a reply to Deepali) that “Christians preach Christianity but have NEVER seen a forceful conversion EVER”. How innocent you are or pretending to be one such. Thats why I said pl. come out of your house see the actual world. You would have not seen but I have seen so many Christian Missionaries luring poor people with money, material, monthly supplies, etc. I do accept that several Christian Missionaries extend real service to needy, but be aware that there are Missionaries other way around.
Coming to your other point, where you laughed at your relatives who cleaned there kitchen you you left the their house, let me give this example (not a mode of countering yours, but to enlighten your existing thought). A neighbour of our family was happened to be a Christian family. Their children visit our house play with my child. After a daily puja at our house, a ‘prasadam’, which is offered to God, is generally shared among the people presence in the home, but these neighbour children always refused to take and said us it is advised to them that not to take ‘prasadam’ from any Hindu’s house. Don’t tell me, such Christian families are very few. I too wish it would be.

In my house, my Christian/Muslim friends do visit now and then. We never treated them in different way, nor we clean our house with holy water (although I was born in an orthodox Brahmin family) . Whom you take it as an example for referring? Always refer good deeds to others. Treat bad deeds at your level and don’t propagate. Don’t simply blame the religion just taking few bad examples.

You were even talking about discrimination of people in Hinduism. Pl. recall your lost memory about the discrimination of people in African Countries few decades ago (may be still there) by White against Black (although both are Christians).

Dear friend if you have problem in any of your body part, treat it back to normal, don’t cut it off. Converting religion is also like that only, have any problem in people who are in other religion, it is individual mistake, not religious mistake.

Once His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Chandrasekara Sarasvati Swamy ji of Kanchi said,

“All troubles in this world start only when attempts are made to wean away people from their native religion and to convert them to a new faith, by holding out the temptation that people can attain salvation only if the embraced that new faith. This is more than what any sensible person can swallow. Since every religion speaks of God, to ask a person to give up the religion in which he is born is tantamount to asking him to give up God and is a sin against God. It is the duty of every person to follow the religion of his ancestors.”

Hope above para is enough to understand how the follower (of any religion) should be! Respect others, admire yours.

      5. Ramamurthy Venkateswaran · ·

Hare Krishna. Shri Balaji Canchi Sistla: You have presented a well balanced view. I only wish to add a point to your postulate. That is, that any person or organisation wanting to do charity, could do without converting the receiver or the group of receivers. The charity gets meaning, if one gives without reciprocation or acknowledgement with a thank you message or any service physically then or later. Hare Krishna!

      6. Deepali, please learn to respect democratic systems before you try to analyze the importance of vote share (it was not 22% but 31%). In non democratic states it can be just one person, the dictator or a few people. If you have multi party system you cannot get 99% votes, unless all other parties exist just on paper only.

Secondly, all fanatics are not same, and fanatics of all religions are not same. The degree of difference is what is important in handling fanaticism, in fact degree of difference is what makes an idea good or bad, otherwise whole life is anyway futile. Everybody is an idiot in some sense if we generalize stupidly, none of us understand the whole world? But does it mean that nobody is capable of solving any problem? Anyway, you can think of better examples yourself. In Hinduism we say all life forms are sacred, be it plant or animal or human, but still there is a difference, a plant gets less pain than an elephant when it is killed (uprooted). A stone also has divine in it (as per hinduism), so as per Hinduism the stone is not 100% life-less the divine is experiencing something even through stone, but that is divine consciousness, a concept different from our concept of life-forms.
We can not be 100% correct, but we can try to move towards refinement bit by bit and that is it, that is life.

        thanks

If we are to follow the advice given by Dipali using what is happening in pakistan, may be dipali is right: What is happening in pakistan? The minority is being decimated. We can do that in India too…. the minority be decimated…. after all, it is only the christians & the muslims, the 2 groups who are spinning all these lies. The rest, that they are calling minorities aren’t religious or ethnic minorities at all… they are of the native tradition. Just because we have 2 nose, but 10 fingers, then according to the logic used by dipali & the likes of her, the fingers must be chopped off to protect the rights of the nose, the monority… Really? That is what all these “secular, scholarly intellectuals” call their expert knowledge?

      8. Your numbers are misleadingly wrong, dear. Please check facts before posting. There is a lot of ugliness in media intended to split the country.

      9. Tilak Shrestha · ·

Dumbest statement I read. Fanatics are produced by systems which claims only their system correct, all other wrong, like Christianity and Islam. Core of Hinduism is plurality, and cannot have fanatics. There are Hindus, who did and do fight against Muslim aggressions. Only idiots like you label them as fanatics. Just look at the facts. Pakistan used to have about 1/4 Hindus, now less than 2%. Bangladesh used to have 1/3 Hindus, now less than 9%. In India you had 3 Muslim
        Presidents.
Read Quran before writing. It is not fringe but the core Islamic doctrine. Is there any parallel in Hinduism?
Quran: Al Taubah (9 – 29): Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last day, nor hold the forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and his messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth from among the People of the Book, until they pay the Jaziyah with willing submission. In the very first post of Ms. Wirth(Proud to be educated) that I read she says
‘ It is amazing that Indians still don’t have the confidence to stand by their own wisdom’.
And ” It seems that only when it is very obvious that the west appreciates something Indian, will Indians also appreciate”
Here I see a European Catholic studying Sanatana Dharma and giving her views while the comments are bending backwards to praise her for the effort. (I have no personal grudge but am amused) The exact same thing that she says, namely when a westerner/European is saying things about our age-old Dharma all of a sudden we are sitting up, taking notice and marveling at the wisdom…All that is being said is readily available in many vernacular languages also, for everyone to read in all of our scriptures, texts etc. We are being lazy and indolent when we do not make any effort to study them but want ready-made interpretations. Even those readymade interpretations are there in the various Bhashyas written by glorious sages and saints mostly intuited at a very deep level. It is high time, we the Indians if we feel sincerely about our own religion, sacrifice time, money and efforts to learn and practice our religion to the best of our ability.
Secondly, I feel we always tend to just live on past glory. But we have to live in the here and now. If the average Indian (read Hindu) is so proud of it, why don’t they practice it in daily life. Why not follow our rituals and traditions, most of which help in purification of heart and gradual erosion of Ego–two things mandatory for spiritual development as per our religion? Instead, everyone mostly, finds excuses when it comes to implementation, When this mentality goes and also the mentality of depending on or getting facts about Hinduism from non-Indian material we will be truly making efforts of our own to see our country and its religion/heritage from our own perspective. History is proof that due to excessive accommodation in the name of principles of Sanatana Dharma, we got royally skinned by successive marauding countries. Hence it is imperative we make our own efforts to rediscover and reconnect with our religion and not depend on translations and interpretations by westerners or other outsiders.

    1. This article https://mariawirthblog.wordpress.com/2012/12/ ‘Proud to be educated?’ was published already some years ago in Garhwal Post and I put it on the net only in Dec. 2012. At that time, the awareness was still much less than today, at the start of Baba Ramdev’s untiring effort to make Indians aware of their treasure.
Right now I would add one more point regarding education, about which I feel strongly ever since I teach a small boy English. But I did not get down doing it yet:.it is: WHY English Medium schools at all. I don’t mean not to learn English. I also learnt English but never went to an English Medium school (there are none in Germany except for expats. In case you agree that is an important point, maybe you could take it up? On the other hand, since I am in India since 34 years, maybe you could consider me as half Indian?

      1. Thank you, Ma’am for showing my comment.

I notice that in your descriptions of Abrahamic religions, Judaism is conspicuous by its absence. Is it because Jews have been in small numbers in India and quite a few have emigrated back to their Zionist bastion Israel??

Well, the German Jews Rothschild are the originators of problems for Indian Hindus right after the invading and occupying Islamic barbarians. While the latter when they came to India were more interested in the physical wealth, destroying temples, raping our women and conversion to Islam and in killing those who refused to convert (phew!)—-the former were exceedingly diabolical in that, they pulled all the strings in the name of British East India Company and British Raj. Even today, the world media, finance, banking and trade is in fact run by them on their vested agenda. They did what exactly Macaulay set out to do–systematically make Indians feel inferior about themselves and everything about themselves, their culture religion land and heritage. My blood literally boils…
.In brief, NO nation, race and religion has been so grotesquely taken advantage of and used as our land and us Hindus. Hinduism and India are like water and its moisture–inseparable.

That is where the answer to your question lies..the founding fathers of our nation had foreign education and continued with English which was the language imposed on British colonies. We have spent 60 years with English being touted as the language of the civil society and “educated”
who are TOTALLY BRAINWASHED by American cultural imperialism. If we do away with English medium, then we raise a generation which is disadvantaged in the ruthless competition for jobs, education and trade. It is an implant of the missionary schools and convents that today it is even considered a status symbol and elitism to be educated in English medium. Sadly, this is one of the mistakes that are very hard to be undone, given the slavish mindset of the urban class and the aspiring rural class as well..this should have been implemented right after we got rid of British..but they left their virus behind:(

We Indians have a history where time and time again, the outsiders came and sowed poison in different guises. In order to be effective and permanent, such a movement should come from within for the Indians, by the Indians. We must rely on none but ourselves

      2. There is nothing wrong with learning English, but there is everything wrong with using English to smother all the languages native to our country…In my opinion, up til 5th grade, or age 12, all children must learn Hindi & their regional language, choosing one or the other as the first language. Once in 6th, they should be introduced to English…It will be easier for them to learn it because their brains have become more mature by this age & the ground work of their 2 languages has already been set in their mind & brain. They will pick up English very fast…yes, the one condition is that the teachers teaching English should be good teachers, with good command over English, & the quality must not be compromised. This will have manifold advantages…the next generation will be conversant in more than one language, will have a sense of extra achievement, pride in their identity, heritage, & diverse nature, & will be very much at home in the globalized world too…I grew up in that system…the only disadvantage I noticed there was the bad teachers who were teaching English in the Hindi & vernacular medium schools…I was lucky though that the Hindi medium school I went to for a short time had English teachers who were really good. And that is how it should be.

You said: “We must rely on none but ourselves”

Perhaps you should reconsider your view as who you include in “ourselves”. Perhaps “ourselves” should include whoever defends the cause no matter her/his nationality but how honest and involved is in the cause. Otherwise, you will be practising sheer racism.

Haven´t you realised that she UNDERSTANDS and CONVEYS the cause FROM an INDIAN HINDU perspective itself? I can tell you that I have seen in my life many hindu indians much less hindu and much less indians than her.

If Maria had changed her name by some indian one, nobdoy will read her with NOT PREJUDICED lens. Then nobody would mind if she had her indian mother in Germany who reads the news for her. And they would see the content more than the container.

By the way….seeing “ourselves” would mean having the enough viveka to distinguish between who are “them” and who are “us”.

Unlike what is said in this, Christians dont believe that there are only a few people who are chosen by God and the rest are damned…! Really? It means you do not know Christianity. Let me help.
Truth is – good people go to heaven, bad people go to hell. On the contrary, Christianity states, “All Christians go to heaven, no matter how evil. And all others go to hell, no matter how virtuous.”
Please read the bible yourself, with both eyes open.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. But he who does not believe is condemned already.
Accordingly, all your non-Christian ancestors are in hell. Is it true? Do you agree?
Let me tell you, they were virtuous and are in heaven.

      1. Dont just take a few parts of the bible and state these….. Read the rest of it and see…. When jesus said he is the way, the truth abd the life, he was stating a fact…. But it doesnt mean that people can just believe in him and then do whatever they want…… It doesnt work that way and hence that is definitely not what christians believe….. Believing in jesus is just one part of it……Read the rest of the new testament and see for urself….. There is a huge list of commandments that are given by jesus himself for everyone to follow and till everyone follows that, noone enters the kingdom of heaven.
Read mathew 7:21-23 . It says ” not everyone who says to me, Lord , Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father in heaven……………….. And then i will say to them, i never knew you. Depart from me, you who act wickedly(disregarding my commandments)”.
And again in mathew it goes on to even say that anyone who looks at his other brother angrily is equal to commiting murder and a lot of other commandments… Im not tryinf to argue here…. Jusr stating a few things coz i dont think u understood eveeythinf in christianity properly… I just dont want u to have the wrong idea…..

Jesus is claimed to be the ‘Christ’, as understood by Jews then. That is – he is King of Jews, not God or son of God, came to free Jews from Roman colonization. The Christian definition evolved later, with no regards to who Jesus really was or what he actually said.
Any way, how can a person be ‘true?’ Only a fact may be true or not. Delhi cannot be true. ‘Delhi being capital’ is true. I am sure you are intelligent enough to understand the difference.
Dumbest idea behind Christianity is that one person’s crime can be transferred to another. Whole of Christianity stands on this nonsense. Adam \Eve commits crime, whole humanity is guilty. We can pass our crimes to Jesus and he suffers. Absolute nonsense. Crime and punishment is not transferrable.
Another dumb idea as the edifice of Christianity is that a ‘belief’ does produce something tangible. No, a belief, true or not, does not make any difference. That is merely because somebody believes ‘Jesus is Christ’, true or not, his\her crimes do not fly off to Jesus 20 centuries ago.

And then u start condemning things…. And Jesus is the king of jews just as he is the king of all on earth… And he came to sacrifice his life for our sins…. I dont think thats a dumb idea but i think that is a privilage that was given to us because he loved us that much….. and there a million things in hinduism itself that i think is utterly dumb…. But thats not the point…..

We could go on arguing like this forever…. Thats not gona change anything…. All i ask is that you please read the bible and see for urself….. if you cant do that, then please dont point your finger at another relegion or any other ideologies…….

The statement ‘Jesus is the only way to heaven’ is nonsense. Actually, he never said that. It was written much later as if he said so. However, who cares who said when? The very idea that only Christians go to heaven and others go to hell is absolute ridiculous. Truth is ‘Good people go to heaven. Bad people go to hell.’ It does not matter what religion you belong to. But you will not be able to reconcile the truth with nonsensical Church doctrine. That is called brain washing.
As I wrote before crimes and punishments are not transferable. Otherwise, we do not need any court or prison. Jesus has already paid for it. By the way, how does it work? If you still a chicken tomorrow, do you e-mail to Governor Pontius Pilate 2,000 years ago, and he then gives a few more lashes to poor Jesus as the substitute punishment for your crime?
        Tilak

      5. PRAISE GOD · ·

Thats the problem… youre making ur statements on a few infos that you got from some books and from some other source…. you have got it wrong…. There are many christians itself who tell the same thing that only christians will go to heaven…… but thats wrong because most of them just read bits and pieces of the bible and then they go on proclaiming wrong things…. trust me, that is not what the bible says…. there is more to it. God is a righteous and a just God…. So he wont just throw eveyrone into hell as he wants….. His ways are holy and righteous…. Infact, Jesus hated religion…. So he never said anything about only Christians going to heaven….. If christians don’t live according to the will of God, neither are they going to heaven……. But it is true that Jesus is the only way to heaven…. And like I said before…. There is an exemption for those people who havnt known Jesus….. God wil judge them according to how they led their life……… And he is not just gona throw them into hell….. So try and read the bible and figure out the truth for yourself …. dont judge too soon……

and as for Jesus dying on the cross… No, pontious pilate does not hit him everytime we commit a sin… This is how it is…. God being holy couldn’t tolerate sin…. As it is said, “The wages of sin is death”….. and so everyone had to make sacrifices as an offering to God because blood was the only way out for man from sin…. but Since God loved us so much he wanted to find a permanent solution and so he himself came down as a man and shed his own blood for us on the cross for all the sins that was and that is to come….. I dont think that is dumb…. I think that just shows his unending love for us…. Why would the creator of the entire universe want to come down from his throne and die for such sinful tiny little people like us…. But yet he did it…. That just shows his love and the main essence that the bible speaks of, ie… LOVE..!! God is love..!! That is his greatest commandment…. To always love one another and to even bless your enemies and pray for them.

      6. Tilak Shrestha · ·

        Jacob Jee, Namaste
Sins are not transferable. No body else can pay for others sin.
No, death is not the wage of sin. Death is a natural phenomenon. Every birth is associated with a death. Humans or animals same thing.
If God choose to, he may just forgive us of our sin, no need to shed blood. Shedding blood is another crime not a payment for the sin. Jews sacrificed goats to God to pay for their sins. They believed that by slashing throat of a goat and letting blood gush out will pay for his sin. The poor escape goat takes on sin and by bleeding pays for it. Most disgusting nonsense. This disgusting idea being expanded to even more disgusting idea that ‘God sacrificed his own son Jesus to pay for others sin.’ Here is a question – ‘to whom God sacrificed Jesus?’
Yes, it is the core doctrine of Christianity that only Christians go to heaven. Catholics go even further. They say only Catholics go to heaven. If you are not a Catholic, you will go to hell. Please do check with any Catholic priest before it is too late.
Yes, God has endless love for us. That is why Bhagwan Narayan is depicted with umbilical cord, like mother, joining him with the creation like us. He also is holding lotus flower showing us the ‘Bhakti’ or ‘way of love.’ That is any body who practice love in general would attain divinity. It does not matter if you are a Hindu, Christian, Muslim or even atheist. Love, not bloodshed, is the key.

        @Tilak Shrestha

You said good people go to heaven.
What is your definition for good?
Name one good person you know.
I am sure you will be scratching your head.
There is no one who is good.
All are bad but in varying degree.
You have quoted the Bible but even the few verses you have not understood. Do any of these verses talk about Christians ? It is only talking about how the belief in Jesus can save you.
You seem to be in search of the truth as I see that you have read all the religious books. Please read them with the intention of knowing the truth. If you read only to find fault, you will be only wasting your time like running on a tread mill. You will be in the same spot.

      8. Tilak Shrestha · ·

        ElvIs Jee, Namaste!
I do not know who is good and who is bad. I am talking about the principle. You go to heaven if you practice ‘good heart inside and good deed outside.’ Your particular ‘belief’, true or not, is irrelevant.
No, believing in Jesus means nothing. You claim ‘Jesus is Christ.’ It may be true or not, but either way is irrelevant. You have to face fruits of all your actions. You cannot wish it away to Jesus. Sins are not transferable.
Please do take your own advice and read Bible carefully and objectively. Let me explain the term ‘Belief in Jesus’ to you. Jesus claimed to be the Christ. That means he claiming to be the King of Jews, a man, not God, not son of god, a descendant of King David, appointed by God to free Jews from foreign occupation. For the Jews then it became a critical question, if Jesus is really Christ or not. If a Jew believed then he is obliged to obey Jesus to fight the Romans. That is all. It does not believing ‘Jesus is Christ’ makes your sins go away and paid by him. Such nonsense was later added by Paul. Actually that idea comes from the another religion called ‘Mithraism’ prevalent then. Let Jewish Rabbis explain it to you. Do not tell me that you know more about Jesus then Rabbis. Remember, Jesus was a Jew, lived among Jews and talking with Jews as per the understanding then.
        Thanks, Tilak

And listen,i really dont wanna carry this forward cause its pointless talking to smeone who is hell bent on proving her point rather than just listen and maybe think for a while about it before accusing and pointing out at other relegion…. You are a human at the end of the day, and so just like everyone else, u use onky 1% of ur brain and hence there will be a lot of things u can’t understand like about sins being transferred and stuff….. Jesus being a God, knows what he spoke about……
Anyways before i end this, just have one more thing to say…. jesus may have walked among the jews but they never accepted jesus as their king cause of many reasons whixh ull understand if u read the old testament…..

And its not me who needs to read the bible…. Go ahaed and read the entire thing instead of a few paragraphs from here and there…… Then things will start making sense and ull knw what it means….. Read with an open heart like the other person wrote….

I am also not interested in getting into unnecessary debates. But unfortunately, if you do not speak out truth, lies wins. It is important because, Christianity is not an innocent as it is projected. It is going around and converting many poor and uneducated people with money and other inducements. It ahs killed millions and devastated many cultures.

Christianity is in essence a brain washing system and would not let its members freedom in thinking. Why go far? You cannot say, “Person A cannot be punished for the crimes of Person B.”
Christianity’s swindling technique is called the ‘Good cop and bad cop.’ Police like to present two cops, one good and one bad, to a suspect. One threatens and another pretend to be sympathetic and protective. That is, one applies stress on the suspect, another relieves. Then the suspect becomes very open to the nice cop and divulges all the secrets. There are many variations of the technique. Here comes the Adam and the Original Sin, that you are guilty, born in sin, and definitely go to hell. Then comes the Jesus who pays for it and saves you. All of sudden you are obliged to Jesus.
But the ‘good cop and bad cop’ technique does not work on a good lawyer. He will see through it right away, and may even sue the police department. Same here. Christianity cannot swindle intelligent people. Truth is a person cannot be punished for another’s crime. Neither we are responsible for Adam’s sin, nor Jesus can pay for ours. Such swindling technique works only on weak-minded fools. Is Christianity about seeking truth or spirituality? None whatsoever.
Here is a sample of real spiritual ideas.
Quotes from VEDA – Ancient Sanskrit Hymns (circa 4,000 BCE):
Truth always triumphs Satyam eva jayate

    2. To all my Christian friends here: please be aware that the dogmas of your belief can never be verified. you are free to believe them, but also see that it is rather difficult to believe them, unless one hears about them already in childhood when one does not yet question what one is told as truth.

Yes, some doctrines can be verified. However, we need to pay attention to the central and defining doctrines.
Hinduism: Theory of Karma “Every action has equal and opposite reaction” is proven by Scientist Newton. You may test yourself in any physics laboratory.
Christianity: Sins committed by Adam “original sin” spreads like virus to all humanity. Original sin plus personal sins of individual Christians are already paid by Jesus. It is repudiated by Christian nations by forming courts and prison. If all their crimes were already paid by Jesus, is there any need of court and prison?

What is up with people saying that christianity promotes violence and criminal behaviour….. Christianity is based on the bible and the bible nowhere prmotes any sort of violence…!! Mahathma Gandhi himself followed the principles of what was written in the bible because of the fact that it was based on one and one fact only, i.e, LOVE..!!

Only two communities in the world hold the exclusive rights to liable their worst crimes against humanity “Peace & love”… The Christians & the Muslims…they are really the goons…the bullies who keep committing the most heinous crimes en masse & keep insisting it is love & peace….

      1. Youre just blaberring smething for the sake of an argument…. U have no idea what christianity is and yet, u act like u do….. You just see a few things that happen here and there and then u come to a conclusion and a judgement…… The foundation of christianity is the bible…. Read it properly first and then draw conclusions before you point out at other relegions…..There are a lot of things i could say about hindus the way u talk about christians but yet i do not want to bring that up cause i am not a hindu and i chose to believe that ther is more to it than what i just see from people around me….. So i do not want to make a judgement….. There is absolutely no justification that any christian can make if he commits a sin…. Cause the bible is against sin…. God being holy cant stand it in the first place…. So christianity is definitely not what you think it is……
If you want to go ahaed and support hinduism, thats fine… But stop accusing other relegions…

      2. And what about people like you and Modi who went around butchering people in the name of religion? Shame on you.. the whole world spits on your face for the inhuman treatment meted out, so much that countries had to ban entry of people like modi who are core hindu fundamentals. And you have the nerve to proclaim it as a safe relegion, theres only bloodshed thaught and no constructive teaching at all.

      3. How come you who have been butchering Hindus for generations…and not only Hindus, any one you encounter…and you are accusing Hindus for hitting back at you for killing Hindus? Really…you Muslims & Christians are the epitome of shamelessness & lies…you are toe evil incarnate…and the evidence is all there for us to see in your history ever since the birth of the christianity & Islam…they have been for the planet & all life forms what termites are for things…

Elvis: in Hinduism there are no dogmas as such. Nothing that somebody else said and we have to believe them because somebody said and that. Each and everything can be verifiable by oneself in our own inner laboratory of discrimination.

And yes, you are in your own right to believe whatever you want, but the moment that at the core of that religion it states that “Jesús is the only way” it will lead FOR SURE to some kind of violence or the other, either by disrespect and superiority complex or by the pure violence that conversions signify.

So at the very heart of abrahamic religious there is an injuction to be violent “Jesús is the ONLY way”. Some ignore it and they become the numerous peaceful christians who do not harm others, but many of them take it at the sword which gives them the right for all kind of atrocities to defend the ONE and ONLY truth, according to them.

On the contrary, in Hinduism we don´t have any injunction to convert, we recognise each one´s right to live their live as per their own understanding, whenever it doen´t imply harming others. Because the very essence of sanatana Dharma is all embracing and all pervading, as for at a deeper level, not to even consider “enemies” and “friends”, because there are neither enemies nor friends. Only the All Pervading One flowing everywhere and in everyone.

And please, Gandhi did not need anything out of Christianity, when his own tradition much more ancient is pervaded of Pure Love if well understood!!! Instead of the childish dualistic divisions of good and bad, friends and enemies, which just divide the world, it teaches about ONENESS.

Learn in profoundity by yourself and not only what the pastor or the priest says. If you learn from biased sources, you can only get biased results.

        Elvis Jee,
Gandhi Jee is a Bhakti yogi and sees only good in others. But what is the truth? Moses brought Jewish tribe out of Egyptian over lordship. That makes him a political \ ethnic leader, not a spiritual. Exactly what is his spiritual teaching? Nothing more than obey him without asking any questions. What happened to the Jews who did not want to obey. They were Killed. Then the militarized Jewish tribe attacked and took over Canaan. All Canaanites were butchered, including women, children, dogs and donkeys. Yet it is given as God’s order. No, it is not. Is it enough blood and gore for you or need more?

@Maria Lozano, I see that you are accusing me of racism in a not-so-subtle fashion. I would like you to tell me any country in the world that depends on foreigners to create a revival of the native religion…excluding of course, missionaries and jihadis? Would French go to say, Portugal and teach them Christianity?? Just because the French are Christians too? Even if they knew the local language, how effective would that be?
The idea is that unless the movement is started at the grassroots level, in a sustained fashion, by yes, our own people for a long time, permanent change cannot be affected. The percentage of people who read blogs in a predominantly rural India is very less. So, the reach is simply NOT there.
For eight centuries we have had peoples after peoples forcing their way into our country whether for invasion, plunder, conversion, massacre, trade or rule. Perhaps it is best to leave India and Indians alone at long last to sort out the problems that infest them now and trust me, we do not lack brains to do that. Hindus may leave India but our religion will NEVER leave our land. The requisite Will will come and we can overcome our issues. This is the reason the large number of Westerners since the time of Vivekananda who were curious about our religion came, learnt what they liked and left, realizing that renaissance of our religion must come from within.

btw, you are also accusing me of prejudice, when you know NOTHING about me. Are you commenting on behalf of Ms. Wirth? as for your content-container, no one will drink milk that is poured out of a bottle of alcohol.

The problem with these poor souls is they are painfully aware of the fact that they converted to christians and muslims out of greed and fear .

A Poem Written by A Sadhu in Rishikesh quite some time back

    QUOTE

Vanity of vanities, all is vanity,

Hollow is the world, hollow is fame, hollow is the sweet name,

Hollow is the norm, hollow is the form, hollow is the will to conform,

Lord is Truth and Truth is Lord, His grace helps to cut Maya’s cord.

Life is short with deluding joys, how long do you play with the world toys,

Pray and weep, weep and pray, this is the simple quick way,

To make the mind – heart fit and pure, this is the remedy sure,

By the grace of God alone, there arises the desire for Advaita (Mukti),

Kudos for being excellent apologetic for BJP’s Hindu ideology. I bet you are much better in using information than 90% of the RSS functionaries themselves who claim that their version is the best Hinduism.
Like all religions are what an individual understands and believes, I have always loved the peaceful and loving Hindu coexistence enjoyed by people of India less anything related to RSS. For there is no difference between a Taliban explaining to me that Islam is a certain way is no different than any RSS or VHP explaining to me what is Hinduism.

Cheers to free spirit to love and worship .

Hindu cosmology is only true cosmology which can challenge foundation of all other religions, the only dharma where science can match is sanatan dharma, the only dharma which gives knowledge beyond the scope modern science is Hinduism.I am very happy to see a wise lady like you but we Indians are not more capable to live together in peace and love due to coming of western lifestyle to our great India.

  17. The writer of the book of the oldest member Gowalikar of RSS has himself praised the Nazi ideology. Secondly, I think sanatana dharma is completely different from the RSS ideology and is better than the latter. Gandhi was a follower of sanatana dharma but he wasn’t tolerated by the hindu nationalists (RSS ideology) as he was in harmony with muslims, hence was shot. Whether the RSS ideology is good or bad is another discussion. I think you have been unfair in your talk. Throughout history, I believe that Islam was the worst looking religion in history to this day. It is also surprising that Modi is maligned in the german newspapers. He is very popular in India and the media in India is in full praise of Modi . I haven’t seen much negativity in the mainstream media at least.

    1. Tilak Shrestha · · Reply

Sanatana is the universal principles of spirituality. It is not about a particular history, ethnicity, geography or philosophy. It is all around the world, all the time, and Hindus have no copy right on it.
RSS is a social-political movement. It is to promote Hindu ethos and protection against foreign aggression, especially of Christianity and Islam. But within the frame work of ‘Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava.’
In 1930’s Hitler’s party had the image of disciplined party capable of lifting a down trodden nation. Its racist philosophy and horror of war were not known. Thus, there were individuals around the world who did buy into this. However, you will not find such influence after the WW II. Though there are still skin heads etc., but they are no longer in the main stream. Thus, to define RSS by the illusion it may have seen in 1930’s is not correct. What RSS today states officially is only relevant.

      1. Also, you must note that Hitler was actually against the zionist Jews. So, in that aspect if RSS supports him, I have no problem. The reason, I say that is India is taking inspiration from Zionist Israel and Modi had a meeting recently with blind joy in his eyes. If Hitler was against the zionists, RSS must have integrity and go against the zioinists and not join hands with them

      2. Tilak Shrestha · ·

With due respect, you make no sense. Then, Churches used to teach anti-semitic (Jews killed Jesus) kind of propaganda. It was all over Europe. Hitler used his anti-semitic feelings to use them as scape-goat. RSS has nothing to do with it. RSS did not know about the details of Fascism, but attracted to its surficial discipline. Because, RSS then thought the reason why Hindus were pushed around is due to lack of internal discipline and unity. However, the ethos of RSS is not Fascism and there is no further interests. It has nothing to do with Zionism either way. Today, India finds many interests in common with Israel, not Zionism. For example, defense, agriculture, computer science etc. Earlier, Indian Congress had cowardly attitude of not offending Muslims by having diplomatic relation with Israel, even against national interests. Though, in all the wars with Pakistan, all the Muslim nations supported Pakistan regardless of the issue, merely because Pakistan is a Muslim country. They even gave fighter planes to Pakistan, an act of war against India. Thank God, today Modi government is free from such nonsensical policy.
Today, Hitler etc. are all irrelevant. The important issue is the continuing aggression of Islam. This is what we have to deal with, not brand RSS as Fascist or Zionist or any other irrelevant color.

      3. I disagree with you. There is no aggression from Islam

      4. Tilak Shrestha · ·

Facts, not your ignorance, matters. Islam is bad and aggressive religion. Learn Quran:
Al Taubah (9 – 29): Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last day, nor hold the forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and his messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth from among the People of the Book, until they pay the Jaziyah with willing submission. And feel themselves subdued.
Al Ma’idah (5 – 51): Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends. They are friends with one another. Whoever of you, seeks their friendship shall become one of their number. Allah does not guide the wrong doers. ”
Al Anfal (8 – 12): When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.
Muhammad (47 – 4): When you meet the unbelievers in the Jihad strike off their heads and, when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly. Then grant them their freedom or take ransom from them, until War shall lay down her burdens.
Al Haqqah (69 – 30.37): Take him and fetter him and expose him to hell fire. And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the tremendous, and urged not on the feeding of the wretched. Therefore hath he no lover hear this day nor any food save filth which none but sinners eat.

      5. Jews did not kill jesus. Bani Israil encouraged the romans to hang Jesus and they did. That does not mean the jews as we know today are accountable for the acts of Bani Israil although they do beleive in it. Pakistan is not a muslim country neither are the arab countries. Use your head

      6. Tilak Shrestha · ·

You should read carefully my posting. Yes, you are correct, Jews did not kill Jesus. Jesus tried to foment a small armed rebellion against Roman. Roman crucified for it. However, later Churches found it easy to blame Jews for every thing including death of Jesus. That is, the anti-semitic idea comes from Churches.
Are Pakistan and Arab countries are Muslim or not is besides the point. They think so and it is the integral part of their policies.

  18. @Raj Vaidya,
Who told you Pakistan is not a muslim country? and What is it that you say about arab countries, that they are not islamic. Do you know if you are a muslim or not? Did you check Pakistan’s constitution? Are you using your head at all and asking others to use their head?
