Maria Wirth is a German and came to India on a stop over (that’s at least what she thought) on her way to Australia after finishing her psychology studies at Hamburg University. She visited the Ardha Kumbha Mela in Haridwar in April 1980 where she met Sri Anandamayi Ma and Devaraha Baba, two renowned saints. With their blessing she continued to live in India and never went to Australia…
She dived into India’s spiritual tradition, sharing her insights with German readers through articles and books.
For long, she was convinced that every Indian knows and treasures his great heritage. However, when in recent years, she noticed that there seemed to be a concerted effort to prevent even Indians (and the world) from knowing how valuable this ancient Indian heritage is, she started to point out the unique value of Indian tradition also in English language and shares them on this blog.

Meanwhile i wrote the book “Thank you India – a German woman’s journey to the wisdom of yoga”. It can be bought via the link from Garudabooks for a discount (at present only 274 Rs). it’s also available on Amazon.in and Flipkart.

Kindle edition is also available, both on amazon.com (for those abroad) and amazon.in.

i would like to thank all who commented on the different articles. Many comments are very insightful and knowledgeable and some provoke lively discussions.

Maria wirth … I read your article , really great. My English is not quite good. You research on Hinduism . I respect other religion and believeing my Hinduism. Some . OK Best luck

    1. did you see that there are also some Hindi articles on the blog (translations) and one in Marathi?

      1. Respected Maria:

It is with great reverence that we write to you. My colleague Vincent Bruno a.k.a Vishnu Chaturvedi is a committed Christian convert , or rather, I would say, revert to Hindu a dharma as I am sure you would understand in context that the entire humanity subscribed to the great Vedic Dharma at some point in history.
We are a self funding completely genuine Hindu human and animal welfare organization which is in the process of attaining non profit status in the USA.we have had dozens of campaigns in the USA notably reclaiming the swastika for Hinduism entitled ‘ Do, you thought it was about Hate, it’s about Hinduism’ , we have leafleted with our sister organization HSAI ( Hindu Students Association International) distributing high quality literature and materials including glossy , well designed educational and themed postcards in main public hubs like Washington Square Park, grand Central Station ( with license) , Central Park etc . HSAI and JFH were initiated at Hunter College in New York City by Mr. Vincent Bruno and archeology graduate Ms. Nisha Ramracha. I happened to meet them at a Hindu Unity event ( Hindu Sangathan Divas) in August 2013 and held every year . The Hindu one man army anti corruption crusader and Hindu Nationalist politician Dr. Subramanian Swamy and Baba Ramdev were present.hindu nationalism as you know is spiritual nationalism as we embrace great souls from all ethnicities like the Irish Margaret Noble ( Sister Nividita) ) .

We have held campaigns against the Vatican ‘ Vatican Must Apologize for the Goa Inquisition) .. ‘ and two campaigns against Mother Teresa : No Saint To Hindus’ especially the large insult and offence of making this fundamentalist ‘self righteous hypocrite ‘ as per Chrisopher Hitchens book ‘ Mother Teresa. The Missionary Position ‘ and Dr. Aroup Chatterjee’s ‘ Mother Teresa : The Final Verdict’ and now his latest expose on ‘Mother Teresa : The Untold Story ‘ with not even the faintest respect for Hinduism a saint in the land of Dharma!!
I myself was first generation born and raised in England and forced to attend Chapel in a predominantly Anglo Saxon English Christian boarding schools and even pushed in the choir although my teacher had said that because my brother and I were Asian we would and could not sing. In this day and age there would have been legal action for such religious and racial discrimination! These fraud Self righteous Christian hypocrites did not even spare such small children like us from their hateful prejudice!

Enough said about myself. .. I am currently in a Bengalaru. I know you live in India and it would be a singular honor to meet and converse such pressing issues and concerns for the future of Hindu dharma in the world at large.
Please visit www. JusticeForHindus. Org and you are welcome to comment on our work and efforts and make welcome suggestions.
I just sponsored an entire six week trip for JFH and HSAI through ten states to document and photograph dozens of sites of Hindu architecture and heritage including temples, fortresses and palaces. We also have compiled a substantial library of invaluable archaeological and historical for archeological and historical research purposes for Hindu students in the West who are getting a biased Eurocentric education which omits or worse still denigrates Hinduism.
        Look forward to your response.

  2. Wonder that was India. I have read Ancient India and always considered it was the most modern society ever lived so intelligently and peacefully. Today I read your article and found a first person who shared my views so closely. I have circulated your article with my comments and video to my whole company 9 I will forward that mail to you too). In addition I will like to state that still the real `Hindu’ in any `Indian’ is not dead ; sure it is dormant. And it depends upon our leadership as you have shown in your article can wake it up and bring back the real Hindus (without the present Hindus with dogmas). Let us meet some time.

As a Bharatiya (भारतीय) and Hindu, I sincerely thank Ms. Maria Wirth for helping people of Germany and also English-speaking world, about the richness and reality of Sanatan/ Hindu religion. What I am most grateful to her for is that she is opening the eyes of Hindus about their great folly of demeaning a great way of life i.e. Hinduism. They forget that Sanatan/Hindu religion explains “dharma” as “शारीर द्वारा धारण करने योग्य” literally means “that which should be worn by body, which should be retained by the body”. So “dharma”, i.e. religion is the set of principles (pertaing to every realm of life, be it science, politics, socity, individual or anything else having an existence though may or may not be perceived by senses) which should be followed by humans to live life to its fullest and achieve the ultimate aim of human life.
Again my heartiest gratitude to respectable madam Wirth.

Firstly let me remark that I was not inclined to dissipate my reserve of divine energy on responding to what appears to be the malicious comments by what apoears to be a crypto Jew who calls himself ‘Edward’ and then signs of as ‘Shalom Shepherd’. His precepts are steeped in arrogance and deepest ignorance re: Christianity. He obviously wholesale buys the lies , fabrications and serious unrelenting distortions and attacks on sacred ancient Hindu Sanathana Dharma and doesn’t use any critical judgement of own. Is he aware of the missionary menace in India who illegally invade and crusade the length and breadth of this Holy land maligning at tacking assaulting defaming and terrorizing? Is he even remotely aware of the hateful rhetoric of the Christian missionaries against peace loving Hindus in their own land. How Christians pilfer and encroach on and steal Hindu lands and wealth.is he even open to understanding the western Christian backed terror groups such as the NLFT ( National Liberation Front of Tripura). Tens and thousands of innocent Hindu tribals such as the Deangs have been mass murdered yes genocided by Baptist backed Christian militants in the North East. Through insidiously and stealthily formenting and instigating hatred for Hinduism, their former faith and instigating insurrection and revolt by consistently meddling in sovereign India’s internal affairs the western backed missionaries created a climate of divisiveness and seperateness. . Yet the West dishonestly backs the militants seperatist as Freedom fighters resisting ‘Indian Rule’ exactly the same way they champion the violent separatist movement of Muslims in Kashmir. It is all part of the long term utterly selfish racist , colonial ‘Breaking India’ strategy.the United Nations even openly permits the violent separatists to have an office with the provocative declaration ‘ Nagaland for Jesus’ posted on their door. It is certainly ironic that ancient Nagaland was the cradle of Snaje worshippers. Jaga means snake or more specifically cobra. The missionaries are in reality emissaries of an insidious western apparatus to invade, divide and rule.to divert, convert and subvert plain and simple no ‘ Godly’ intentions there. Contrary to powerful Western Christian churches and worldwide biased media the Christian agencies and NGOs and churches and foundations constantly meddle in India’s internal affairs and fabricate lies after lies and by stealth and deploying corrupt and treasonous institutional collaboration at internal and high political steal and pilfer Hindu Temple wealth and land.as far as caste and Dalit issues.the very term Dalit is a fabrication of Christian menace missionaries to divide Hundu society and weaken and exploit those false divisions. It is easy for the monied manipulative Christian institutions to stir up hatred and misdirect anger of the poor semi literate or wholly illiterate masses . As far as caste system another big stick you think you can beat Hindus with. Wrong again! Caste is not even an An Indian word.it was a derogatory discriminatory Spanish/ Portuguese word employed by the Catholic Portuguese Inquisition against Hindus who were yet to be forcefully converted under the Terror of the two hundred year long Goa Inquisition with its unspeakable excesses of tirture , mass myrder, forced conversions of Hindus to Catholicism and unparalleled cruelty.i am not hear to educate you. If you deserve the Truth before you shoot your mouth off it will come to you. Btw I don’t know if you are Jewish but Christian proselytizing gets you three years in jail in Israel from what I understand. Why would you have one standard for yourself and another for the Hindu ‘natives’. It is absolutely preposterous to draw any paralleling parity between the great Hindu spiritual tradition of Sanathana Dharma that has given an ungrateful world ( ( yoga is a $20 Billion dollar plus industry in USA and they very scarcely link it to
Hinduism but again dishonestly appropriate it as Christian yoga) meditation, vegetarianism and countless noble spiritual truths …and Islam which is the very antithesis of Hindu Dharma. Hinduism is the only living bastion of true spirituality. Do not belittle it.

Question: Did the Christian Catholic faith encourage paedophilia in church ministers?

Answer: No, didn’t. Similarly there is a disconnect between Hinduism (Santhana Dharma) and the atrocities human commit on humans.

      1. Kathavarayan · ·

It is once again testimonial to your peripheral knowledge about the intricacies of human atrocities in India in the name of religion which are justified by ‘religious teachings’. No doubt about the noble truths and sublime practices of Hinduism as a way of life. But as a textual and narrative religion, especially that which is upheld by Sangh Parivar and Brahminic clout is indeed inhuman. It should not be called Hinduism but Brahminic Vedism that is dangerous for humanity. Please read more and spend time in the rural and tribal areas of north India to understand it. Ref. Kanchi Ilaiah’s “Why I am not a Hindu” and Ambedkar’s “The Annihilation of Caste”. All the best.

    3. Mr. Edward 1stly get YOUR FACTS RIGHT.
There is nothing divine & lovingness about abrahamic religions.
You people cut the very same hand those feed you.

Abrahamic minds are light years away from even grasping what Sanatan Dharma is.

For abrahamic people Hypnosis was evil, Yoga is evil, Ayurveda was mere forest dwellers’ thing, meditation is evil.

      Earth is 6000 yrs old.
Medieval churches even banned use of “0” cause according to them “0” means nothingness which represented Devil, Its because of merchants for whom ban of 0 became problem for their businesses which ultimately affected “Churchs’ finance (Real Divine power of Church)”, so church removed that ban.

All you abrahamic people got refuge in this “Bharat – Land of Lord Krishna – Land of Hindus”.
If your religions are so much of peace & loving then why you were exiled & If we are so evil & devil worshipers why we gave you refuge – the people who hate others based on religions.
If your religions were so much of peace & loving then why you had to invade & enslaved other countries?

Prejudice Mindset Of You Abrahamic People Is Causing More Violence In The World.

Those Eastern People your religions Ignorantly Call Evil, Never Attacked On Other Countries, Other Religions & Looted Their Wealth, Destroyed Their Civilizations & Imposed Their Beliefs By Force.

So Called Abrahamic Religions Of Peace & Love Invaded Others Home, Enslaved Millions Of Innocent People, Killed Many Innocents, Raped Their Women, Murdered Who Rejected Their Religious Beliefs, Looted Their Wealth.

Abrahamic Religions Contributed Nothing To The Humanity & To The World.
They Conquered Advanced Civilizations & Owned THEIR Knowledge.

We Eastern People Created Systematic Knowledge Regarding Maths, Science, Astronomy, Food, Medicine, Sex.

Verbal or physical violence caused in the name of god by blinded rigid mindset is considered holy in your Abrahamic religions of peace & love.

How such a diverse country – India can stay together!! there is only 1 example in the world today.
Despite the fact that minorities openly criticize, demonize & insult hindus & Hinduism, instigate verbal & physical violence & we are still tolerating, that is enough proof to show that difference between hindus & rest of the world.

Abrahamic Religions Are Incredibly Involved In Defaming Other Religions By Plotting & Misguiding People By Monetary Force.

In India it is going on for long time.
      One example of it –

In the book “The Coming Darkness – John Ankerberg” which was originally published in 1993 but still read by many non-hindus, there are many hindu verses which are horrifically twisted to sound completely filthy & disgusting.

In Ch 13, page 329, it is mentioned – “In the Bhagavad Gita 9:30 Krishna declares, “Even if a devotee commits the most abominable actions, he is to be considered saintly because he is properly situated” (i.e., in “higher” consciousness).”

      Real Translation is –
“Even if the vilest sinners worship me with exclusive devotion, they are to be considered righteous, for they have made the proper resolve.”

Devotion to the Supreme Lord is so potent that it can reform even the vilest sinner.
In the scriptures, the classical examples of this are Ajamil and Valmiki, whose stories are commonly sung in all Indian languages.
Valmiki’s accumulated sins were so overbearing that he was unable even to enunciate “Ra..ma,” the two syllables in Lord Ram’s name. His sins were preventing him from taking the divine name. So, his Guru thought of a way of engaging him in devotion by making him chant the reverse, “Ma Ra,” with the intention that repetition of “Mara Mara Mara Mara…” will automatically create the sound of “Rama Rama Rama…” As a result, even such a sinful soul as Valmiki was reformed by the process of Ananya bhakti (exclusive devotion) and transformed into a legendary saint.

This is enough to know the real face of your expansionist abrahamic religions.
Money, fear & violence are the necessary pillars for your religions to grow but your rigid mind can never see that.

Kudos to Maria Wirth! Very befitting enlightened response or rather reposte to the lunatic fringe of Dr. Zakir Naik self righteous Salafist renditions of Islam.? How can Dr. Zaik launch scathing criticism and sarcasm of his sacred ancestral faith Vedic Hindu Dharma. And on The soil of the Hindu homeland ( even though trifurcated and bloodily dismembered by his ‘ secular’ ideologues) see what happens if you dare legitimately and rationally criticize Islam in an Islamic majority region in India . Don’t even think about the terrible consequences in Islamic theocratic countries where criticism equates with a loosely fanatical interpretation of apostasy which carries the death penalty and triggers murderous howling mobs . Dr. Zakir Naik preachings and rantings and highly offensive and exceptionally biased and perverted ‘truths’. As the old adage goes ‘Even the devil can quote the scriptures.’ Learning and quoting precepts by rote is bit a sign of enlightenment or education . Substance and context immersed in sincere universal Truth and Justice is true edification. Fake secularism is an aberration and perversion if true morality upheld by the lofty ideals of the Eternal Religion of true Humanism ‘Sanathana Dharma’

  13. Typo learning scriptural verses by rite is certainly not erudition or a hallmark of sincere and absolute spiritual enlightenment in the context of Dr. Zakir Naik rattling off and parroting quotes from scriptural text. Never judge a book by its cover as the old saying goes but by the depth of its contents. Empty vessels make more sound!

    1. Typo by rote

Mohini’s reply is amazingly accurate. . Not to mention the robbing of temple wealth, which as per tradition, belongs to the temple deities. What one hears about the Padmanabhanswamy temple wealth of Kerala is an example of the wealth that existed in the thousands of temples of early India that included Pakistan , Balochistan, Afghanistan, etc The Abrahamic people have plundered it all and destroyed Bharat- The Golden Bird. Read Prof Basham’s ‘Wonder that was India’.
The Bahmiyan Buddhist statues of Afghanistan which the Taliban raised to the ground a few years ago, were at one time, studded with precious stones in the distant past.. The eyes of Buddha had huge diamonds” almost the size of pomegranates” wrote a Chinese traveler, some fifteen hundred year ago. First, the heads of inhabitants rolled, then the priceless stones stolen, then went the statues themselves. Th perpetrators in this vandalism and religious intolerance were the same set of people. Generations went by, but their ways remained the same.
What some saw and wrote on the Portuguese inquisition in Goa, are unimaginable acts of cruelty. One such technique , I will relate to . Young children were forcibly taken away from Hindus and particularly from Brahmins and handed over to Portuguese surgeons who systematically amputated their limbs till only a living torso remained. These limbless living torsos were then put into baskets when the surgical wounds had healed. Then parents were invited to stand in a row and one by one the basket covers removed and the living torso of their child was shown. Some parents fainted at the sight, some died of shock, some shut their eyes tight. The Portuguese then proceeded to slice off the eyelids of the parents so that the sight would be inescapable… There were many gadgets and specially designed equipment for torture. The Northeast is a fertile ground for well funded missionaries to carry on their proletysization activities. They would only be too happy to separate the seven sister states from India in as much as Islamabad wishes to separate Kashmir from India. The Hindus of Kashmir were slaughtered , cut on electric saws, tongues split into two and what not taking aleaf from Aurangzeb, thatof gouging out eyes of victims and skinning them alive. Aurangzeb did just that to Sambhaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s ‘s son. Later did the same to Banda Bahadur as well. So regrettably, its as if the two Abrahamic religions had some unfinished agenda in India..English MSM has beenmostly run by same people and they are responsible for furthering the divide and giving secularism a bad name.

    1. So sad to read about all these atrocities!

    Your views are unbiased.
    Great…keep going…we are with you.

  18. Maria, you are a psychologist, not a physicist. Your science articles are vague and as such vaguely linked to the extremely vague ideas of ancient Indian science. How much do you really know of modern physics to link the two (ancient vedic science) and modern physics together. I am afraid that stringing together of vague ideas is not science. Science is all about the deep details not plying about the surface of things and adding unproven things along the way to fill holes.

    1. i was covering several conferences as early as 1982 – convergence of ancient wisdom and morden science… further it is a question of exploration inside yourself. it needs sadhana for this, not just intellect, neither only experiments.

      1. Biswajit · ·

Whenever someone asks “a direct question”, it’s very easy to evade it with “sadhana”! It’s called shifting of goal-post!

      2. ok, say purification of inner perception instead of sadhana. why not use Indian terms. Bhakti is a great part of it. yet scientists might laugh it off… till they finally get around maybe. i remember when i was a teenager i heard in Germany: Indians believe this world is illusion.. and the tone in which iut was said meant “how ridiculous”. now? they would embarrass themselves.

    2. Joey,
Genuine Science is about discovering the TRUTH.
Incidentally – the scope of Modern Science is completely limited to the Relative Truths, and that too which fall within the Perception Domain of Human Senses, including their Extensions, through some Gadgets.
However the Empirical approach defines the Limit for the Modern Scientific Models, as the Scientists try to fit the Data related to Natural Phenomena, perceived through their Limited Senses. The Ultimate Reality, however, could be completely different.
And that’s why when some more sensitive equipment is invented, and more aspects of the same Natural Phenomena are discovered, the earlier Theory or Model requires changes or … even a completely New Theory to be floated, as the TRUTH at that moment, which may again change after equipment with better sensitivity are employed.
By this approach, you will never ever cover the length / breadth and depth of the Relative Truth alone (as this Cosmic Creation is INFINITE and ETERNAL), what to speak of the Realm of ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!
So a mind charmed by the so called DEEP DETAILS about Modern Scientific Approach, exploring the Gross Matter, will certainly find the Topics related to Subtle Matter … and beyond … the Spirit Soul … as VAGUE only.
The approach to study the Subtle Matter is very different …
And the approach to learn the ABSOLUTE TRUTH is entirely different …
First, you try to begin differentiating between these Domains – Relative Truth (Gross Matter) / Relative Truth (Subtle Matter) and Absolute Truth.
Asato ma sad gamaya (means leave the Temporary and come to Eternity)
Tamaso ma jyotirgamaya (means abandon the darkness and come to light)
Other Point is about PROOF … so the PROOF depends on the Capability of the Observer, who is seeking it.
You will never be able to prove the existence of RED Colour to a person who is unable to perceive the RED Colour … leave about proving, you won’t even be able to explain about your experience of RED Colour to such a person … you may extend this simple example to other areas …

Refreshing insight! Sometimes being an outsider gives you a better perspective to systems, abstract as well as material. An experience with a different belief system helps to better appreciate Indian philosophy. Gods is the name given to the multitude of deities in Hinduism for want of a better nomenclature, and, to reign in the not-so-initiated! After all, not many Hindus are enlightened enough to differentiate between Hinduism as an organised religion, which, like every other religions, restricts and Hinduism as a spiritual entity, that liberates as absolute truth should.

Maria, I am very very impressed by your dedication and the depth of your knowledge. I am wondering if you are really German.

After independence, India had the misfortune of being ruled by some families who were heavily influenced by western cultures and luxurious ways.
Though they ruled the most ancient, sophisticated civilization which was rooted in karma (hard work) and dharma (truth), the west made them ashamed of themselves. They could only bring about hereditary politics, more divisions on the lines of muslims and dalits etc. and rampant corruption for more than 60 years.

The worst thing they could do was the total eradication of Indian languages, sanskrit in particular was washed out from the Indian education system. All private and government administration work is carried out only in English or Hindi. The history books were rewritten by these britishers, portugese & politicians to glorify the invaders, gold diggers, the imposters whereas the proud martyrs of my country do not even find a mention.
Millions died fighting for my country and its identity, it must be by far the greatest struggle in the history of mankind, but there are still millions of ungrateful indians who praise these Dacoits and their Ways of dacoity (post, railways etc.)

I recently saw a video on youtube by C.K.Raju and realised what the industrial revolution copied from us from 15th to 17th century was well known to India in the 5th century. I also saw a video on TED on how the various cultures across the world are vanishing. Most of the worlds knowledge is being wiped out with these cultures. Thanks to these missionaries and maulvis we are breaking up with thousands of years of our history, ignoring the truth, burying the sacrifices and embracing some notion called Reason or GOD. The Vatican and the Saudi government are paying them really well to brainwash poor illiterate masses and they employ every inhuman and cruel method to exploit peoples weaknesses and to alienate them from their own identity.

Today most kids in India go to english schools and the english education system is making them skeptical of the age old traditions and cultures being followed in their homes. Many customs that cropped up during the past thousand years and were blindly followed certainly need to be questioned.

What the west can never digest is that we Indians are much more civilized, hygienic, organized, informed, better reasoning, better understanding, open to all ideas, trusting and forgiving. Families are breaking up and so are the threads which bind us with our old world.

I believe that a true Hindu is the most Atheist and also the highest Believer.

    1. well, don’t quite know regarding ‘really German’, but was born to German parents and lived there for 29 years…

I do wish to go into the replies given to an individual and religion based thoughts., However the thought process and logical understanding of life by maria wirth do interests me. The comparison of wave with an individual and the ocean with the supreme is beautifully explained.

  23. Insightful article on Swami Vivekanand. Congrats.

  24. Very insightful, articulate write-ups. Although I have firmly believed in the Truth you speak of, it was heart warming to see it put so succinctly. Thank you.

In this heavily researched work, extensively drawing from the Quran, authentic hadith, principal sufi works and biographies, along with numerous other documents, we discover an account of Islam – based on both its authenticated history and especially its psychology – that precludes its alleged origin. And as we examine the primary Islamic texts, along with two national examples (“Pakistan” and Nazi Germany) exhibiting the same origin, the real occult creator of Islam becomes clear. In addition to exposing the myth of Islam’s revelatory origin, we intensively examine the actual doctrine of the heretical – to Islam, yet at the same time viciously anti-Hindu – sufi ‘saints’, juxtaposing their intermediate (as openly admitted by them) mystic realizations with the Consciousness of the Rishis and Yogin. Finally, we return to the Islamic scripture to again comment on the absolute impossibility of any “Reformation”, and outline the ongoing centres of control by which the Asura of Falsehood continues to savagely impose himself.

    Hello Maria,

I read your article on “Science and Religion” in Prabuddh Bharat, March 2017, and was quite impressed with the details and conviction you have presented your views and experiences. Although, I myself being a Vedantist and discipline of Ramakrishna Order (Swami Vireshwarananda, the 10th President of the Order), I have lived in the US and India both and still spend a lot of time in both countries and I follow both Midern Physics and Vedanta closely, find that all religions as practiced get dogmatic and truths remain more of rhetorical to their followers. Even extreme views and practices do get prominent, many times, helping power centers within religious domain and politics too! Best truths to stick to, instead of religion names/identity, are following what Vivekananda said “religion is realization” and “worship of the spirit by the spirit” (incidentally, a great I’m prompt lecture delivered by Swami Ashikananda on this topic.) This helps transcend religious boundaries and more inclusive. These are my personal views and I know, you are so much ahead on this path and I bow to you in respect for the great contribution you have made to Vedanta, Modern Science and Indian thought in general. Many thanks and look forward to staying in touch. Keep me informed and I would very happy to help in whatever way I may.

    1. “transcending religious boundaries”, as you have written, is indeed very important. how to achieve it? Problem is that the dogmatic religions incalculate from childhood on a strong sense of identifying with one’s religion. as long as the follower really believes that his book contains the ‘true word of the Highest’, little chance….

    2. Regarding your offer to help, i feel spreading these thoughts may be helpful for those who have no clarity regarding these issues. please feel free to share

Madam, I just happened to read an article by you about your feeling about a born Hindu despising his own rich cultural heritage and sheepishly copying western materialistic culture.Iam very much impressed about grateful gestures about this ‘veda bhumi, karma bhumi’! In this context, I wish to convey what a swamiji defined about ‘Hindu’.’ “A Hindu is one who seeks Energy in Matter and ultimately realizes the Matterless Energy”! ,Which justify necessity of visiting deities with ‘name and form’ in temples.Since I practiced in transcending desires, testes, perfumes etc., I am blissful with belief in Consciousness!

Dear Ms. Maria Wirth, Glad to have read your reply to Dr. Zakir Naik. He spews acid on other religions but defends it under the religious discussion banner. And if others do the same on Islam, Im sure it will not be tolerated. Islam did not “grow up”. It is like a teenager who shouts “i am right and have to be right all the time”.

    1. it can’t grow up, because “i am right and have to be right all the time” is the doctrine… it is also the doctrine of Christianity….

Maria, you characterized Christ and Christianity as a religion devoid of mercy for wrong doers. It just call for recognizing our faults and and asking for mercy. The God we worship is a about mercy and forgiveness. Jesus died for all of us ( not just christians ). His last words were ” it is finished”. It was not his life on earth and his humanness but the very fact that he paid forward for the sins of every soul so e may inherit the oneness with God. It is the same sacrifice that other religions believe in , but this was a supreme sacrifice for all. In yogic terms he is Maha Shiva and he is give a place in the highest Chakra in the center of the forehead between the eyes. Thanks

I am born a Hindu. I live being a Hindu. And I will die a Hindu. Hinduism gives you absolute mental freedom. You can believe in God or not. I don’t believe in God. But I am a Hindu.

    1. HINDUISM is not a RELIGION …
In ORIGINAL Sense – HINDU means any one living on the EASTERN Side of the River SINDHU – as this word was coined by the ISSLAAMIC INVADERS to identify the Residents of this Land.

You have chosen to be an ATHEIST … that will define your destiny ahead. There is no Question of Believing or Dis-Believing GOD – you have chosen to defy the Supreme Authority of GOD by closing your Mind / Intelligence …

Anyways – pls be aware .. that those who fail to accept Supreme Lord’s presence in their life .. .they realize His Presence … at the time of their DEATH…

I see a lot of similarities between us. Like you I was a student of psychology. Spent most of my teenage years moving from ashram to ashram in search of the truth and studying different religions.
In the end I learned that anybody can find the divine by turning inwards. And just following the religion you where born into.
Hinduism fascinates me with their depth of knowledge.
I love to read your articles. And find an amazing clarity of thought in your writings.
Stay safe. Stay loved. Live long and prosper.

I read your above mentioned article – where it is mentioned “The Rg Veda (10.22.14) states that earth is round, goes around the sun, etc, yet even Indian children don’t hear about it.”

Following is Rig Veda Chapter 10 Hymn 22.14 (10.22.14)
    तत तवायाचामहे.अवः शुष्णं यद धन्नमानुषम ||

Please explain the meaning with respect to Sun as you mentioned in article.

    1. Please be aware that there is a whole industry trying to defame the Vedas by ‘special’ translations, Max Mueller included.
      Check this out.
      Rig Veda 10.22.14
“This earth is devoid of hands and legs, yet it moves ahead. All the objects over the earth also move with it. It moves around the sun.

I would rather trust a Hindu pandit than a Muslim regarding translations of Vedas.

Just think, why did the western elite, from Voltaire, Schopenhauer to Heisenberg, Einstein, Tesla and others, praise the Vedic knowledge? Why was India so advanced in ancient times? What is the essence of Indian wisdom? Look at history. Which people were by far the least violent?

  43. Thank you very much for educating us, how much rightful the Varna system was developed by Hindus more than 5000 years ago. And the britishers hidden agenda behind ruling the Indian continent.
Bless your heart. Keep up the good work.

  44. I would respond and record my views on your well meaning question ‘why some of the many Indians are agitated with the term Hindu India’ through your email

  46. Ms Wirth. Recently read n article by u questioning if Hinduism n its sub-sects are religions.
Ma’am, I think u r amongst d few westerners who have started to understand what Hinduism is.
For us it is not a religion but a way of life.
Thank u for understanding it n not putting it across as something it isn’t
Looking fwd to see more of ur articles

    Good Evening Madam,
I got to know about you thru a local daily. Really happy to c someone from d west having interest in Hinduism n the truth of this life. As u mentioned the ancient Hindu scriptures and the scholars of that time has provided to the mankind the dos n the donts which many Hindus also r unaware of. As far as Christian n Muslim d two major religion r concerned the faith n practice of these religions revolves around their books (holy) n d peoples following it blindly consider that as d truth.
Madam I m a very ordinary person with no much knowledge but feel sad when peoples preach n practice wrong in the name of God.
Knowing GOD n realising GOD is the truth of being a Human.

    1. Thank you. Nobody is an ordinary person or everybody is an ordinary person. Satchitananda is in all of us.

  48. Maria ji,
You are god -send to India. Indians who are fond of looking west ward for inspiration can learn through your articles and essays that what Bharat knew thousands of years before Christ is now being churned out as new discoveries.
The wheel of time has to run full circle . It’s about time India regained its eminence .
